Industry Relevance

AMB first entered the scene back in 1982 and quickly became an essential trade show for the entire metalworking sector in the European heartland. Editions are held every two years in September at Messe Stuttgart over the course of five days. What distinguishes AMB from other trade shows is that it’s not just a platform for innovation and networking, but also a place of training for the next generation of specialists and engineers. As such it’s quite influential and a constant source of news, innovations and knowledge.

You’ll find that the entire value chain is represented under one roof. The exhibition centre features metal-cutting & metal-removal machine tools; robots, workpiece & tool handling; precision tools; industrial software & engineering; parts, components & accessories; measuring systems & quality assurance; and services, organisations & publishing houses. AMB is the preferred one-stop shop for senior buyers, who want to do all their sourcing in one place. Not to mention that editions are accompanied by an exciting support programme full of special shows.

AMB has returned to a crucial moment in the industry as metalworking experiences major changes due to Industry 4.0. The edition oversaw trends in digitalisation, automation and sustainability not just in the products shown, but also the programming. New to the trade show format are events like the Trend Lounge and the SmartFactory. One thing is clear. Exhibitors and visitors alike have firmly set their sights to the future.

One way to guarantee steady interest from visitors is to land a spot on the self-guided tours. These are tours made available to all visitors – high-lighted and ready on a variety of themes. Exhibitors are pre-filtered and highlighted. In 2022, these themes included Digital solutions, Solutions for processing materials, Climate neutrality and sustainability, E-mobility solutions, Automated production and Medical technology solutions.

Who Are You Going to Meet?

The great majority of exhibitors are German-based operations that include names and branches like Agathon, Allianz, CERATIZIT, CHIRON Group, MAG IAS, GF Machining Solutions, HAHN+KOLB Werkzeuge, ISCAR Germany and Nicolás Correa Deutschland. Satisfaction among exhibitors remains high as many identify AMB as essential for their business and there’s a lot of interest even after the pandemic.

AMB positions itself as a defining trade show for Europe. The most trade visitors and exhibitors come from Switzerland, Austria, Scandinavia, Italy, France and the Netherlands. This gives you a great footing to penetrate well-developed industrial markets. As far as backgrounds are concerned, visitors come from mechanical engineering, metal working and processing, the automotive industry and vehicle manufacturing, metal construction enterprises and tool construction & mould making.

The quality of visitors is also quite high as the majority occupy essential or participating roles in the decision making process. These would be management board members, senior management or general management. Following decision makers, you have professionals working in quality assurance, production, construction design and manufacturing.

Additional Value of Attending

AMB boasts one of the best support programmes in the industry. If you’re looking to stay on top of what major companies are doing, then a visit to the Trend Lounge located in the Trend Area is where you need to be. Here you’ll sit through exciting presentations. Each day covers a different aspect of metalworking - Additive manufacturing (for metal), Digitalisation: Industrial security, Climate change, Digitization / networking / connectivity / umati and Start-up pitches.

Speaking of start-ups, we have to highlight the Start-Up Area and BMWK joint stand, which are two different initiatives here to create awareness for market disruptors and innovators that are looking for new partners and investors. The Start-Up Area features names like Agilitech CNC Srl, aiXbrain GmbH, Allianz Industrie 4.0 Baden-Württemberg, AlphaCut GmbH & Co. KG, Aspio GbR, Gauss Machine Learning GmbH and OS Order-Scout GmbH.

The Smart Factory special show proved to be a big hit as well. The show curated companies that are pioneering digital solutions and defining the new frontiers of manufacturing. How can digital networks be used to the fullest? How can virtual illustration be implemented in real life?

Finally, the special show for young people spearheaded by the Mechanical Engineering Youth Foundation was essential in inspiring school pupils and vocational school students to seek out a career in metalworking.
