The Outlook for 2025

Elmia Wood 2022 performed well, considering that the trade fair was postponed by a year from its original date in 2021 due to the pandemic. The industry is on its way to a full restart. Organisers are already in the planning stages for Elmia Wood 2025 and expect a much-needed return to normal. Participants can expect the event to take place between 04.06.2025 and 07.06.2025. All the new format changes will stick, and programming has entered its early planning stages. Due to the removal of the country's pandemic-related restrictions, the venue will not feature Covid-19 safety measures. Participants travelling from China should be aware that, due to travel restrictions in effect between January 7th, 2023 and February 18th, 2023, they will be required to submit a negative test result upon arrival.

A Brief Overview of Elmia Wood

Elmia Wood presents an overall view of the forestry industry in Swedish and Nordic forestry. The international trade fair is not just a stage for innovations and generating sales, but also discussing changes in how we approach forestry. Industry Relevance

Elmia Wood first arrived on the scene in 1977 and since then put the Swedish forestry industry square into the spotlight. Today Nordic manufacturers and suppliers are at the top of the food chain thanks to this international trade show. Elmia Wood is organised every four years so when a new edition rolls in at Bratteborgs Gård near Jönköping, Sweden it feels like a brand new show. Today, Elmia wood is a platform for innovation thanks to close ties to local universities. The product portfolio has much to offer - moulding cutters, mulchers, off-road vehicles, forestry cranes, chippers, bio-energy units, grubbing-up units, saws and so much more. A big part of the trade show are the live demonstrations whether that’s in the Forestry Machinery zone, Drone Zone or Wood Working areas.

Who Are You Going to Meet?

Elmia Wood is all about introducing supply to demand and showcasing just how far the industry has come in the span of four years. Big and small machine manufacturers are always on the ground to demonstrate their newest models. We’re talking about brands like John Deere, Komatsu Forest, Haglöfs, Ponsse, Rottne, Tigercat, Ecolog, Volvo and Liebherr. With such big names, it’s then not surprising to discover the important people that attend the show. The audience is made up of forest owners, forestry experts, contractors, forestry administrators, forest transport companies and other skilled workers. The educational programming and Wood Working area brings in professionals from all levels and skill sets. Elmia Wood is not just a marketplace. It’s also a keeper of history thanks to Elmia Classics – a digital database that stores brochures and service manuals for forest machines dating back to 1955.

Additional Value of Attendance

Organisers have done much work to revamp and revive much of the show’s format. One such new addition came in the face of the Wood Innovation Loop, which serves as the go-to knowledge loop on new research and technological solutions. It’s here that visitors learn all about the future of the forestry industry through select exhibitors and an information programme. The loop investigates the intricacies of the entire cycle time in forestry. The space is populated by stations whose job is to educate on different aspects of forestry. Most importantly, visitors can receive first-row seats to practical demonstrations of farming methods like thinning, choosing the correct tree and how to proceed while considering nature’s needs and values.

The knowledge content on offer has increased with the addition of Wood Let's Talk – a special stage dedicated to the dissemination of expertise from industry experts. There are lectures as well as discussions taking place on all three days. The first edition touched upon topics such as how the forestry industry has developed since 1975 and what we can expect in 2075, how climate change affects the choice of tree species, and the full uses of forest raw material. All these sessions are also available online via the livestream feature, which is the very first move from organisers to introduce digital features.

The support programme exceeds with dynamic demos and sports activities. The most fascinating of which is the use of well-trained dogs to perform insect inspection in the forest to find trees that have been infested by the bark beetle. Another beloved feature is the Timbersports arena where the top competitors skilled in the use of chainsaws, saws and axes can show their incredible skill in a show-stopping competition. It’s something not to be missed for the world. Finally, we have to mention the Drone Zone as an area gaining great popularity. Drones have become a cost-effective way to monitor large sections of land. The zone features the latest models hot from the factory.
