Event Update

The 2027 edition of METEC will occur at Messe Düsseldorf as part of the Bright World of Metals 2027 event. The event will be hosted as a face-to-face trade show and will not feature Covid-19 safety measures due to the removal of the pandemic-related restrictions within Germany. The event will occur alongside GIFA 2027, NEWCAST 2027 and THERMPROCESS 2027 between 21.06.2027 and 25.06.2027.

A Brief Overview of METEC

METEC serves as the key event for the metallurgy industry, aimed at assessing changes in the industry and technological advances where steel casting and steel production are concerned. Düsseldorf, Germany, is the faithful host for this international trade show that invites experts, engineers, and company representatives in a friendly, cooperative environment. As one of the big, significant events for the sector, it’s not to be missed, especially if you’re looking for territorial expansion.

GETA ltd understands what an exhibitor needs in hotel accommodation for trade shows and takes care of you every step of the way. The excellent location and good access to public transport means your commute takes no more than ten minutes. Groups of twenty people are more than welcome. GETA ltd presents clients with a full portfolio of travel services to get the most out of their business trips.

Why Your Visit Is Worth It

One of the key reasons you should consider METEC is the fact that there are few exhibitors to be your competition for attention and deal negotiation. All the while, you have a thriving audience that is invested in the technologies on display. Have a look at the attendance rates from the last edition to see for yourself:

  • 618 international exhibitors showcased at the event;
  • 17,800+ international trade visitors made the trip;
  • 39 countries are represented
  • 35,000+ square metres of exhibition space used.

Industry Relevance

METEC is a highly specialised trade fair that takes place in Düsseldorf every four years. It’s the definitive platform for metallurgy innovations and industry on the territory of Europe, and that’s a great strength when trying to take your business to a whole new level. Founded in 1979, the fair enjoys respectability and brings in additional attention from the fact it shares the stage with three other fairs: GIFA (foundry technology), THERMPROCESS (thermal processes) and NEWCAST (casting products). Often the quartet of events is referred to as the Bright World of Metals.

The exhibition space is dedicated to the entire value chain. Product categories include reduction plants, rolling mills, blast furnaces, casting machines, ore processing plants, coke plants, drawing lines, scrap processing plants, coal preparation plants, funding equipment and extrusion. You also gain value from the in-depth support program that offers lectures and seminars on a breadth of topics.

Who Are You Going to Meet?

METEC is skewed more or less towards the German market as a small portion of exhibitors are foreign nationals, but this doesn’t appear to be the same for trade visitors. The trade show succeeds in terms of internationality as 66% of trade visitors made the trip from abroad.

If we’re to break down the nationality of international visitors, then we see that the majority comes mostly from Europe, which is closely followed by countries in the far East like China, Korea, and Japan. The industrial sectors we see most representation from are the following – iron and steel production, mechanical engineering and toolmaking, plant engineering, steelworks and export trade among others.

Additional Value of Attendance

A unique feature of METEC is the European Steel Technology and Application Days or ESTAD, which is co-organised with the Steel Institute VDEh. This conference is in its 6th edition and calls for high-quality technical presentations and cutting-edge know-how.

If you do groundbreaking work in the fields of Ironmaking, CO₂ Mitigration, Environmental & Energy Aspects, Rolling and Forging, Steelmaking, Steel Materials and their Application, and Industry 4.0, then submit your paper and add your name to the programme. Over 500 presentations are given. For visitors, the conference means being in the conversation of iron and steel production, the latest technologies in iron and steel production, steel materials and steel application.

The other big ticket item is the European Metallurgical Conference, which is open to visitors of all four events (GIFA, METEC, THERMPROCESS and NEWCAST). The conference explores the work being done in the field of Non-Ferrous Metals.

Finally, we should talk about the newest feature that’s causing waves in the industry and generating a lot of buzz for people all around. We’re talking about the ecoMetals Trails, which are essentially paths of green innovations. The trails cover Products, processes and technologies that do as little damage as possible to the environment. Selected stands will be added to two trail routes, which cover the entire metallurgical value chain:

  • Resource efficiency: These are the secondary raw materials, which showcase sustainable rebirth through metal recycling. The end of the product is the first link in the value chain.
  • Energy efficiency: Heat treatment is indispensable for high product quality. Heat recovery is increasingly part of the processes.
  • Emissions reduction: A resource-saving, low-emission metal production and processing helps the environment – and the economy.
  • Innovation: Economy and technology in harmony with nature. Sustainably produced with environmentally friendly processed products.

Companies that are stops on these trails report high satisfaction with their experience at METEC. They are able to meet with relevant, qualified buyers invested in adopting green technologies. For many small operations and newcomers, being featured gives them the needed economic boost.

The Outlook for 2023

The dates have been set for METEC 2023 and the whole industry is expecting the return of the Bright World of Metals in person after four years. There’s also anticipation and excitement, but the 2023 edition is interesting for another reason – it’s going to be the first edition to take place after the pandemic started. We’ll see how the trade show’s return will be affected. So far organisers are quite confident with early registration numbers.

Perhaps the biggest change made is the schedule change. Previous editions covered the weekend whereas METEC 2023 is set to kick off on Monday and wrap up on Friday. This change was made in accordance with the wishes of exhibitors and visitors.
