Why Your Visit Is Worth It

It all comes down to spectacular business and career opportunities at IDS, because it’s one of the most important procurement platforms in the world for the dental sector. You have much to gain in terms of sales and reaching new markets. The costs associated with exhibiting are an investment, which quickly pays off because of the quality of sales leads you’ll make. Product just flies off the shelf. Even during the pandemic, IDS is a powerhouse when it comes to attendance:

  • 115,000+ square metres of exhibition space;
  • 830 international companies from 59 countries exhibited at IDS;
  • 22,000+ international trade visitors from 114 countries flew in;

Industry Relevance

IDS has had a long history in the making that has contributed to its current position of authority as the very first edition goes back to 1923 at a time when dentistry was a far cry from what it is now. The trade fair is held once every two years and Cologne, Germany is its permanent home. What’s so special about the event is the mix of products and further education. IDS covers the full product range – pharmaceuticals, practical furniture, dental aesthetics, dental drills, dental hygiene, oral hygiene, auxiliary materials for dental purposes, cleaners, prophylaxis, retention aids and so much more. Live demonstrations, performances and presentations are very much part of the DNA of the trade far and since 2015 so is the now highly popular IDS Career Day!

Who Are You Going to Meet?

IDS is where supply meets demand so it’s where you find manufacturers and suppliers from across the value chain. Exhibitors are mainly manufacturers, importers, service providers, associations and institutions directly related to products and systems for dental medicine and dental technology. Brand names include Planmeca Oy, Bielefelder Dentalsilicone and EMS Electro Medical Systems.

The professional audience is mostly made up of dental trade, dentists, dental surgery staff, dental laboratories, industry, service provider, research and development, apprentices and students. As an exhibitor, you’re just as likely as finding a buyer or a business partner, as it is to find fresh new talent for your operation. The biggest reason why people attend IDS is to research the market and find out what the new tools, equipment and products are. Next on their agenda is placing orders and networking.

Even though the trade fair is a German professional event, over 70% of the exhibitors for the past two editions have been of foreign origin. The lead is taken up by European countries like France, UK, Belgium, Bulgaria, Sweden, Poland and Norway. This is then followed by countries in Asia, the two Americas and Africa. Visitors adhere mostly to the same countries of origin, but the ratio of German to foreign visitors is much more clean cut right down the middle.

The Additional Value of Attendance

IDS has embraced digitalisation and transitioned into a hybrid model. The decision was taken due to the uncertainty regarding the pandemic for people to travel. Organisers introduced IDSconnect, a digital platform, which broadcasted 88 items reaching a total length of 1,310 minutes. The digital platform was a huge success in 2021 as it hosted 77 exhibitors from 16 countries, and will make a return in future editions. Users are able to search and call content at any time, and go live when they need to reach their audience.

The support program at IDSconnect is incredible. Organisers have made sure that only the best of the best in their fields are invited to speak in a Talk Sofa event. The Main Stage is host to talks, discussions, presentations, and lectures presented in English and in German. All content will be available for visitors from other time zones, so no worries, if you can’t attend live at the time of airing.

IDS supports new talent. The Association of German Dental Technicians' Guilds uses IDS to hand out the Gysi prize named after one of the biggest names in prosthetic dentistry, Alfred Gysi. The prize is given to aspiring dental technicians, who have demonstrated incredible talent and skills in the field of prosthetics and dental technology.
