Upcoming Trade Shows Cannes, France for Film & Media

The intersection of literature and cinema takes center stage once again at the upcoming 11th edition of Shoot the Book!, scheduled to unfold at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes in May 2024. It’s one of the smaller events that support the Cannes Film Festival and Marché du Film de Cannes, and make up the body of the film industry in Cannes. Organized jointly by SCELF (Civil Society of French-Language Publishers) and the Marché du Film – Festival de Cannes, this event has evolved into a pivotal rendezvous for publishers and producers scouting potential film projects. For over a decade, Shoot the Book! has served as a platform facilitating collaboration between literary publishers and film industry professionals. The program’s track record in fostering film adaptations is impressive with a notable 30% of the books selected since 2013 securing option agreements with producers as revealed by a recent study conducted by SCELF. The 2024 edition promises to elevate the program to new heights with SCELF and the Marché du Film working hard to enhance its offerings and broaden its appeal to industry stakeholders. More than 200 French and international publishing brands will be represented, offering a rich catalog of literary works ripe for cinematic adaptation. The program’s traditional components, including the highly anticipated pitching session (""Pitches"") and a series of business-to-business meetings (""Rendez-Vous""), will be complemented by new initiatives. For the first time, the Country of Honour of the Marché du Film will play a central role with Switzerland receiving this distinction in 2024. Additionally, a special focus on Books from Taiwan will showcase the vibrancy of Taiwanese publishing. The eagerly awaited selection of literary works for Shoot the Book! 2024 will be unveiled on April 12 at the Paris Book Festival. A distinguished jury, in collaboration with Le Film Français, will reveal the 10 selected works.
