Since its founding and opening in 2009, the JEC has become quite popular and sought after. For instance, the venue has been the hosting site of the Automechanika Johannesburg. Furthermore, it has presented the Hostex and AfriBuild fairs.

The JEC has over 150 000 m2 of event space. This total amount is distributed between approximately 20 indoor and outdoor meeting areas. It also has outdoor spaces such as 2 balconies, an escapade, and a lake area. All meeting areas in the 150 000 m2 of event space are flexible and include modern amenities.
