The Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines is a French municipal commune. It is in the Grand Est region of the country. Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines has an ancient past which is interconnected with its mines. Its first mentioning as a city is in 1078 when the Duke of Lorraine, Theodoric II returned the tithes of the city to the local convent.
