For over thirty years, this pinnacle event in the Austrian equestrian calendar draws national and international exhibitors, breeders, trainers, experts and fans to Wels in celebration of horse breeds, health, and equestrian products. Austria has long abandoned horse breeding for the needs of farming, instead considering horses as pets and sports animals. Pferd Wels showcases riding clothes, saddles, nutritional items and even accessories for dogs as the pet industry in Wels has received a massive boom. The trade fair is known for its horse shows, the national show jumping competition, training sessions and equestrian sports demonstrations. Saturdays are typically reserved for Austrian vaulters to demonstrate their skills in a series of individual and group vaulting competitions from classes A to M. In 2023, Pferd Wels opened its doors for young show jumpers and dressage horses for the first time in its history. At the AWÖ Horses of the Future, Austrian breeders, who have made a mark in the industry, presented a collection of noble young horses – all available for purchase.
