Industry Relevance

Medientage began its life in 1987 and served as a springboard for new ideas. Its main purpose back then was to showcase the possibilities of private broadcasting, which was just taking off, as well as the potential of the cable networks in Germany. Since then, the media conference has come to dominate the world of media and communications world and even has influence in foreign markets in Europe.

Although mostly a conference, Medientage has grown a rich and dynamic expo area that displays the latest technological innovations in media. You’re immersed in the world of XR technologies, which cover VR, AR and 360° media. But where Medientage shines is its networking capabilities and informative sessions as part of the conference programme. Organisers host a variety of parties and provide lounge areas to enable proper conversations and socialisation. Plus, the opening event is the ideal discussion platform. All top players in the media industry are there and talk about vital topics that influence the entire landscape.

The pandemic has certainly had its effect on the media landscape. The last two years saw an even higher spike in fake news, hate speech and manipulated opinions. The trust in traditional media is at an all-time low and the mission now is finding out ways to restore it, if media as we know it is to survive.

“The classic media must win back the trust that has been lost. And that works – also and especially in our indispensable dual broadcasting system - through more communication at eye level, through more sustainability, through even more willingness to take on journalistic responsibility. That is the conclusion of the Media Days 2022,” explains the President of BLM.

Who Are You Going to Meet?

As far as exhibitors go, you’re in good company. Major brands in the German market make it a point to attend – Illusioner, Blauer Panther, Magic Horizons, Medien.Bayern, ProSiebenSat.1, K5 Factory, Medien.Bayern, xCircleicaros.com, lymb.io and sphery.ch. These are all market leaders with influence and innovative solutions. As a result, they attract high-value professionals and top buyers from all over Germany.

On the expert side, Medientage is happy to feature speakers at the top of their game. You’ll hear from Eva Schulz (Deutschland3000), Wolfgang Link (ProSiebenSat.1 Media), Faz Aftab (Google TV), Dr. Melanie Amann (Der Spiegel), Ellen Heinrichs (Bonn Institute), and Sabine Anger (Paramount). It’s the quality of these speakers that has helped Medientage become the number-one event for the media industry in Germany.

Additional Value of Attending

Of course, the crown jewel of the event is the conference. Medientage 2022 covered a wide range of topics such as politics & society, sustainability, Europe, TV & streaming, social media, Web3, journalism & publishing, audio & radio, advertising & marketing, education & recruiting. Only the most qualified speakers took to the stage and showcased their deep knowledge of the processes that are shaping media and communications today. In the evenings, visitors could enjoy a variety of events such as the Media Night, Expo Party and the Speakers’ dinner.

One of the several events taking place during the conference is the #BRTalkLab at the central stand of Bayerischer Rundfunk. Here journalists and media experts discussed current topics over the course of the day in short presentations. Plus, there was participation from BR and ARD employees with updates on their current work and where their sectors are headed in the upcoming year.

Creating a new generation of skilled workers is a mission for Medientage, which has led to “Media for You” – a career experience fair aimed at newcomers and young people interested in having a career in media. The target audience covers pupils, students and trainees, who have three days to investigate all the different types of career paths and learn a lot about how the industry works. The fair is divided into seven sections: Journalism, Audio & Radio, TV & Film, Games, Books, Mixed Reality and Mixed Reality.

Participants will receive guidance from seasoned creators and speakers on how to break through into the industry, and meet with the newest generation of media celebrities and content creators. Training institutions, universities and media companies offer 50 workshops, which teach practical skills like the basics of writing columns and tips on taking the best possible pictures.

In 2022, another event that was interesting to the younger audience and the gaming community in general was the PIZZA PLAYTEST X GAMES/BAVARIA @ #MTM22 EXPO. This event takes place once a month in general with a special edition taking place during Medientage as a way for indie game studios based in Bavaria to get as much feedback as possible from visitors. This is the perfect venue for game studios to network with developers, boost productivity and get many new players to contribute to game development. It’s fun for all and participants enjoy free pizza.
