Upcoming Trade Shows Stockholm, Sweden for Lighting

Stockholm Furniture Fair creates the opportunity for the lighting industry in Stockholm to shine in front of a massive audience. The trade fair sits comfortably at the intersection of design, sustainability and lighting. Although now scaled back in size for 2024, the fair succeeded in its mission to captivate over 18,000 visitors including buyers, architects and media. The fair was the site of 270 exhibitors, each adding their voice to the iconic Nordic design style that’s sought after around the globe. At the heart of the fair's offerings were the themes of sustainability and local production, which resonated throughout the lighting displays and installations. The emphasis on eco-friendly practices was evident in the range of exhibits addressing forestry, waste management, and the evolving aesthetics of sustainable design. This focus on sustainability was not just thematic; it extended into the very fabric of the event, with all furniture and built elements from the fair being repurposed or reused in new contexts post-event. It also directed focus squarely on players in the lighting industry in Stockholm. The fair also continued its tradition of supporting emerging designers through the Greenhouse platform, where up-and-coming talents in lighting and design had the chance to showcase their work. This year, the Greenhouse Best in Show Award was presented in collaboration with Sight Unseen. One standout was the Reading Room installation by the Guest of Honour, Formafantasma, which explored sustainable lighting within the broader context of eco-friendly design. The furniture and materials used in this exhibit will find new life, with signed pieces being resold and installation fabrics being repurposed by an art school. This approach highlights a growing trend in the lighting industry towards circular design principles, where sustainability is not only a goal but an integral part of the creative process.
