The upcoming five years are going to be very profitable for the lighting industry in Germany. The LED lighting market, in particular, is set to experience significant growth over the next few years, driven by robust industrial development and a rising demand for residential housing. Estimated to be worth $1.88 billion in 2024, the market is projected to reach $2.61 billion by 2030. That’s a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.55% during this period.
The industrial and warehouse lighting segment is expected to hold the largest market share in 2024. German industrial companies contribute significantly to the country’s economy, accounting for about 60% of total R&D expenditure. These companies are increasingly investing in strategic developments to boost production capacities. A notable example is Osvětléní Černoch s.r.o., which expanded its production and storage facilities in 2023, signaling a broader trend of increasing industrial activities and the corresponding rise in LED lighting adoption. The residential lighting segment, while second to industrial lighting in terms of market share, remains a crucial component of the LED lighting market. Despite Germany’s relatively low homeownership rate—only 46.7% of the population owned their homes in 2022—the large rental market has fueled the demand for LED lighting. The ongoing shift towards more sustainable and energy-efficient lighting solutions is particularly evident in rental accommodations, where landlords and tenants alike are opting for cost-effective, long-lasting LED lighting.
Innovation also drives revenue in Germany’s lighting industry. Here again, LED technology has been the fastest growing subsector. Philips, a key player in the lighting industry, introduced the Philips TrueForce LED high bay universal lamp in 2023. This product is designed for industrial applications, particularly in warehouses and retail spaces, and is noted for its easy installation and energy efficiency.
