The German motorcycle industry demonstrates a stable upward trajectory that has left analysts optimistic as they place the CAGR for the period 2025 - 2029 at 4.71%. How does this translate to generated value? Market value is expected to jump from US$2.92 billion in 2025 to US$3.51 billion by 2029. Unit sales are projected to reach 267,500 motorcycles by 2029. The on-road segment is expected to dominate the market. While traditional gasoline-powered motorcycles continue to be the preferred choice, we’re expected to see a sizable shift in preference towards electric vehicles. The reason here is two-fold: on one hand, consumers are developing an environmental consciousness, while on the other, the government continues to promote sustainable transportation.
Electric motorcycles are a small but growing market. In 2023, only about 8,800 electric motorcycles were newly registered, which accounted for a mere seven percent of the market share. Despite a relatively small market share, the future of electric motorcycles in Germany appears bright. The main drawback to e-bikes remains battery life, but that will soon be overcome as technology advances and charging infrastructure improves. It is expected that electric models will play an increasingly significant role in the overall growth of the motorcycle market, which spells good news for national manufacturers in Germany’s motorcycle industry.
BMW Motorrad is expected to maintain a dominant position in the German market, although specific market share figures were not disclosed in the available data. From a global perspective, India is projected to be the largest market for motorcycles in 2025; expected to generate US$33.47 billion in revenue. This makes the subcontinent an ideal potential partner for export. The German market, while smaller in comparison, presents a significant opportunity for both domestic and international manufacturers.
