Upcoming Trade Shows in Germany for Pharmaceuticals

Germany’s pharmaceuticals industry has found a new avenue with much potential for growth and increased revenue in the form of biological drugs. As large pharmaceutical companies shift focus from traditional small molecule drugs to complex biologics, the German market has emerged as a key player in this nascent niche. The country’s emphasis on biopharmaceuticals has reshaped the industry and Germany is well on its way to becoming a top global production hub for advanced therapeutics. Biologics, which are developed using living organisms, have vastly changed the ways we approach the treatment of various diseases due to their high therapeutic potential. In Germany, the biologics market grew by 10.5% between 2021 and 2022, nearly doubling the growth rate of the overall pharmaceuticals industry. By 2022, biopharmaceuticals generated EUR 17.8 billion in revenue; roughly one-third of Germany’s total pharmaceutical market. Key therapeutic areas like oncology and immunology have shown particularly strong performance, with double-digit growth rates in 2022. Oncology represents the largest share of the biopharmaceutical market, with a 29% market share, closely followed by immunology at 28%. Combined with treatments for metabolic disorders, these three segments comprise nearly 75% of the total revenue from biopharmaceuticals in Germany. Another booming area has been the infections segment, which includes vaccines and antiviral agents. In 2022, this segment saw a 35% increase in revenue, reaching EUR 1.2 billion. This spike highlights the growing importance of infection treatments, particularly in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has heightened global demand for vaccines and antiviral therapies. Germany’s prominence in the pharmaceutical industry is not limited to biopharmaceuticals. In 2021, pharmaceutical production volume in Germany reached EUR 34.6 billion, reflecting a year-on-year growth of 6.9%. Along with Belgium and Italy, Germany is one of the top pharmaceutical manufacturing locations within the European Union.
