Upcoming Trade Shows Aberdeen, UK for Energy

Aberdeen, the Granite City, might have built a powerful energy industry on the back of its oil and gas sector, but the city has heavily invested in the current energy transition revolution, where it’s swiftly claiming a top leading position. What sets apart Aberdeen from the rest of the UK? The enthusiastic involvement in the hydrogen economy. H2 Aberdeen is a key initiative driving the hydrogen revolution in the Aberdeen City Region. This ambitious program has already introduced 85 hydrogen vehicles, including the world's first hydrogen double-decker bus, and established two publicly accessible hydrogen refueling stations. These stations are versatile, capable of refueling buses, cars, heavy goods vehicles (HGVs), and vans, which cements Aberdeen’s pioneering status in hydrogen technology. The city leads the HyTrEc2 project, a multinational partnership involving the UK, Germany, The Netherlands, Sweden, and Norway. This collaboration aims to promote hydrogen use in transport and energy sectors across the North Sea Region. The Aberdeen Hydrogen Hub is another flagship project, spearheaded by Aberdeen City Council. This initiative aims to produce green hydrogen commercially from renewable sources, supporting not only the city’s transport but also its heating, industry, and export ambitions. By focusing on affordable and sustainable hydrogen production, Aberdeen is set to become a world-class hydrogen hub. But hydrogen is only one component of Aberdeen’s energy mix; wind being the other. In terms of renewable energy sources, wind power is the easiest to generate given that over 25% of Europe’s wind energy potential crosses Scottish land and the region’s wind generation capacity is projected to be more than three times the local requirement. Equinor’s £200 million Hywind Pilot Park is the perfect example of Aberdeen's offshore wind success. Operational since 2018, this project features six 5MW turbines on floating structures at Buchan Deep, which generate enough energy to power 20,000 homes.
