Upcoming Trade Shows Taipei, Taiwan for IT & Technology

The IT & technology industry forms the foundation of Taipei’s economy. In addition to superior digital infrastructure and a high concentration of companies operating in the information and communication sector, Taipei also organises several high-profile events such as the Taipei Spring Season Codefest – City Dashboard Hackathon, organised by the Taipei City Government’s Department of Information Technology (DOIT). The 2024 edition demonstrated the talents of the world-class talent based in Taiwan. Held at the Jiantan Youth Activity Center, the event attracted over 200 programmers from across the island, all of whom competed in an intense, 30-hour programming marathon aimed at improving urban living through IT solutions. The hackathon focused on enhancing the Taipei City Dashboard, the central platform for monitoring and managing city services and infrastructure. Participants were tasked with creating innovative tools and data-driven solutions to help the city government address real-time urban challenges. The event's overarching goal was to empower citizens and officials alike by providing access to critical information in a more user-friendly and actionable manner. Under the guidance of Information Technology Commissioner Chao Shih-lung, the competition featured five key themes: EOC (Emergency Operations Center) Dashboard, Citizen Service Dashboard, Disaster Resilient City Dashboard, Traffic Safety Dashboard, and Climate Change Dashboard. Teams selected one of these topics and tapped into the city’s open data portal, data.taipei, to develop their solutions. By analysing real-world data, participants sought to create digital tools that could enhance traffic safety, increase resilience to natural disasters, and contribute to the fight against climate change. To understand just how central the IT & technology industry is for Taipei’s success, you need to look at the calibre of the jury members, who occupy leading positions in academia, government, and industry. These include Kiang Fin-jon, Consultant at the National Institute of Cyber Security, and Wang Ching-hung (TonyQ), founder of JavaScript.tw.
