Palexpo

The Palexpo is Switzerland’s first exhibition centre and before Messe Basel opened its doors was the largest centre in the whole country. Construction began in 1978 and continued for three years until its opening in 1981. Since then the Palexpo has been renovated and expanded three times in the 80s, 90s and early 2000s. Now the convention centre has a total exhibition space of 106,000 m² (~1,140,000 sq. ft.) that’s separated into 7 halls that are suitable for conferences, congresses, shows and sporting competitions. Palexpo served as the home for the Davis Cup until 2015 and now the Laver Cup since 2019, which generates a lot of interest from tennis fans, considering the tennis field has a capacity of 18,400 spectators.

What you also need to know is that Palexpo has made commitment for a sustainable environment, which means the centre uses electricity from renewable sources and recycles its waste. This has been going on since 1992. The centre also has 2800 parking spaces and reliable connections to public transport and service to the airport. Aside from the exhibition halls, there are two congress centres available as well. One of the most interesting facilities at Palexpo is the Villa Sarasin – a high-end space meant for weddings and corporate gala dinners.
