Upcoming Trade Shows in China for Plastics

CHINAPLAS 2026, Guangzhou, China
21 - 24 Apr 2026
China remains the world’s largest consumer and producer of plastics. Currently, its industry is undergoing some exciting, fundamental transformations in response to evolving regulations and sustainability initiatives. Valued at $73.48 billion in 2021, China’s plastics industry is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 3.73%, reaching $98.49 billion by 2029. China leads global plastics consumption, with polyethylene (PE) accounting for over 25% of the domestic market in 2021. The continued expansion of industries such as consumer goods, packaging and healthcare has driven sustained demand. However, regulatory pressures are compelling businesses to rethink material usage and adopt more sustainable alternatives.
The Chinese government has implemented a five-year action plan aimed at reducing non-degradable plastic waste. The plan will include a nationwide ban on plastic bags in major cities as well as a 30% reduction in single-use plastics across the restaurant industry. In a very similar fashion, hotels and postal services will phase out plastic packaging 2025. This strict regulatory shift is pushing industries to invest in alternative materials such as biodegradable plastics and paper-based packaging.
We also have to talk about the face that for decades, China was the primary destination for global plastic waste. It imported over 55% of the world’s discarded plastics. However, a ban introduced in 2021 has drastically altered global trade flows, forcing waste-exporting nations to develop alternative recycling solutions. China is also now prioritizing the modernization of its own recycling infrastructure to meet rising demand for sustainable materials. Companies are seeing a lot of new government incentives, investments in biodegradable plastics and recycling technologies are surging. What we can expect in the next decade will be an increase in the production of eco-friendly alternatives and the widespread adoption of polymer tech by the automotive, medical and electronics industries.
