Upcoming Trade Shows Lyon, France for Animals & Pets

In late August 2023, Lyon hosted the Joint International Congress on Animal Science, which was held under the banner “Climate change, biodiversity & global sustainability of animal production.” The event was a collaborative effort by INRAE, the French Association for Animal Production (AFZ) and France Génétique Elevage on behalf of Interbull. This congress was a focal point for experts and enthusiasts in the livestock industry and its outcome had a direct effect on the animal industry in Lyon. The congress delved into various facets of animal science, covering genetics, nutrition, physiology, animal health and welfare. The event received 1200 abstract submissions for theater presentations across 99 sessions and an additional 700 for posters. Anticipation was well founded as over 2000 delegates attended on site and many more participated virtually. These sessions explored the latest developments and insights in animal science as well as laid out concrete strategies for improving animal wellbeing. Lyon has a rich history with animal farming as being favorably located in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, which is famous for its wealth of natural resources, topographies and climates that allow for a diversity of farming opportunities. With an economic output accounting for 11.9% of France's total, the region is home to 48,500 farms that offer a blend of plant and animal production. Around 20% focus on beef, 13% on milk, and 11% on sheep, goats or other herbivores, solidifying the region’s position as a significant player in France’s agricultural sector. The region embraces sustainable farming practices as 13% of farms turn to organic production and 30% adopt labels or quality signs. An additional 30% participate in short supply chains in order to maintain a farm-to-table approach that’s locally driven and environmentally conscious.
