Upcoming Trade Shows Bologna, Italy for Recycling

H2O - ACCADUEO 2025, Bologna, Italy
7 - 9 Oct 2025
Bologna’s recycling industry is poised for significant expansion following the acquisition of two glass recycling facilities by materials group Sibelco. The company has confirmed its purchase of Emiliana Rottami, an obsolete glass recycling plant, and Emill, a glass fines recycling facility. Both facilities, which were previously part of a single entity that declared bankruptcy in 2019, were acquired through a bankruptcy auction. These acquisitions mark a strategic move by Sibelco to enhance its presence in Italy’s glass recycling industry. With the addition of Emiliana Rottami, Sibelco aims to expand its national recycling operations, while Emill will enable the company to implement a zero-waste approach to glass recycling.
Sibelco’s latest investments complement its existing recycling plants in Musile, near Venice, and Macoglass, a recently acquired facility near Bergamo. The company plans to revamp the Emiliana Rottami site by clearing waste piles and demolishing obsolete infrastructure. A detailed engineering study is underway to develop a state-of-the-art 250,000-ton-per-year brownfield recycling plant, with construction expected to commence by the third quarter of this year. Additionally, Sibelco is evaluating a proposal to source recyclable material from a stockpile located nearby on Via Bonvino. These efforts are designed to increase the availability of high-quality recycled glass, providing manufacturers with more sustainable raw materials.
Sibelco is recognized as Europe’s foremost glass recycler, processing an impressive 1.5 million tonnes of waste glass annually. Its expansion in Bologna is expected to play a key role in Italy’s broader efforts to reduce waste and increase the efficiency of glass recycling processes. The company's expertise extends beyond recycling. As a global leader in material solutions, Sibelco transforms and distributes a diverse portfolio of specialty industrial minerals. Its solutions serve a range of industries, including glass manufacturing, ceramics, construction, coatings, polymers, metals, and water purification.
