The Fortezza de Basso is considered by many to be a masterpiece of Renaissance architecture. It is one of Italy's leading historical venues and was built between the years 1534 and 1536. The complex has 80 000 m2 of which 55 000 is located indoors. It has around 11 meeting areas and an approximate capacity of 17629 people. It has served as a hosting site for corporate and public events since 1967. Among the notable events which have taken place at this location is the Pitti Immagine Uomo/Bimbo/Filati.

The Fortezza de Basso was built around 1536 by Antonio da Sangallo the younger. It has a total area of 80 000 m2 distributed between 11 meeting areas. These include 3 pavilions with a total event space of 33300 m2. Additionally, the complex has 8 congress buildings. Many of the congress buildings contain ancient parts of the complex. One such example is the Quartieri Monumentali or Monumental Area.
