Upcoming Trade Shows Shanghai, China for Medical & Pharma

Shanghai's medical and pharmaceutical industry is experiencing a wave of innovation and, more importantly, integration. At the recent Healthcare Industry Summit held at Fudan University School of Management, executives and officials emphasized the need for deeper collaboration among industry players to address the growing demand for healthcare services, particularly in elderly care. Wu Qianyu, a senior official with the Shanghai Health Commission, highlighted the city's efforts to develop new service models that are accessible to community neighborhoods. Fan Jia, president of Zhongshan Hospital affiliated with Fudan University and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, shared insights into the hospital's integrated approach to research and clinical work. The hospital has streamlined its processes for securing patents in the biopharma sector, filing 734 applications in the first half of this year alone. This focus on transforming research into practical applications underscores Shanghai's role as a leader in medical innovation. Next month, the hospital will further strengthen its geriatrics services by opening the national geriatrics medical center in Minhang District. Shanghai's success in the healthcare industry is partly due to its comprehensive service and supply chain capabilities, which set it apart from other regional hubs in China. Hillary Liu, consulting manager at China Insights Consultancy, pointed out that Shanghai could benefit from adopting collaborative incentive measures, similar to those in overseas industry clusters, to further enhance its position. The city already boasts a robust ecosystem that brings together technology, talent, supply chains, and capital, as evidenced by the recent establishment of district-level industry parks. Shanghai's clinical research resources have been instrumental in advancing the availability of treatments for various diseases. In October, China's first national Achondroplasia (ACH) Care Day was launched at Xinhua Hospital, affiliated with Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, to raise awareness about ACH, a major cause of dwarfism.
