Husum might be a small town, but it’s making big moves within the renewable energy sector, particularly in wind energy. The roots of Husum's wind industry sector can be traced back to 1982, marking the dawn of modern wind energy in Schleswig-Holstein. The installation of the first GROWIAN (large wind turbine) set the stage for future developments, even though it was dismantled five years later. This period saw the emergence of self-built small wind turbines, which by the late 1980s numbered around operational 50 turbines. In 1984, the state government introduced binding guidelines for the design, installation, and operation of wind turbines, fostering further growth. Its biggest contribution to the wind energy revolution is the famous HUSUM WIND trade fair, which is projected to attract over 600 exhibitors and 12,000 visitors from 51 nations in 2025. This event is a pivotal platform for showcasing the latest advancements in onshore and offshore wind, green hydrogen, sector coupling, storage technologies, recycling, digitalization, and repowering, along with the associated finance industry. The story of HUSUM WIND began in 1989 in a livestock auction hall, where the inaugural Husum Wind Energy Days took place. The event featured 20 exhibitors and drew 10,000 visitors, which even back then indicated a strong interest in wind energy. This modest start has evolved over three decades into a legendary trade fair that serves as a central business platform for renewable energy players globally. Following the success of the first Husum Wind Energy Days, the event became a biennial fixture starting in 1991. By 1993, the wind energy industry showcased its maturity and growing self-confidence. In 1995, the fair was officially named HUSUM WIND, featuring over 80 exhibitors and drawing 12,000 visitors, cementing its status as a significant event in the renewable energy calendar.
