Upcoming Trade Shows Munich, Germany for Energy

Spurred on by ambitious government plans, Munich’s energy industry has made significant strides towards a sustainable future through the efforts of its municipal utility, Stadtwerke München (SWM). As one of Germany’s largest municipal companies, SWM is driving Munich's energy transition with a robust strategy focused on renewable energy and sustainable practices, and in the process earning itself a reputation for its stellar decarbonization track record. SWM plays a pivotal role in Munich’s daily operations, providing a secure supply of electricity, natural gas, district heating, district cooling, and pure, untreated drinking water sourced from the Bavarian Alpine foothills. Additionally, SWM manages the city’s energy and water networks, operates 18 indoor and summer swimming pools, and oversees the municipal subway, bus, and tram networks through its MVG mobility subsidiary. By expanding fiber optics and other communication networks, SWM is also laying the foundation for a networked and liveable city of the future. Owned entirely by the City of Munich, SWM operates with a mission that aligns closely with the interests of Munich’s citizens. Sustainability, social issues, and the environment are its core values. The city’s ambitious renewable energy goals are central to SWM's operations. The company has been at the forefront of Munich's energy transition since 2008, when it launched its Renewable Energies Expansion Campaign. This initiative marked the beginning of a significant shift towards renewable energy long before Germany’s national climate neutrality targets were set. SWM's strategy emphasizes the importance of generating both electricity and heat from renewable sources, recognizing that a successful energy transition must encompass both sectors. As of 2022, SWM operates approximately 60 renewable power plants around Munich, generating around 6.3 billion kWh of electricity annually. This output is sufficient to meet 90% of the city's power needs, covering households, industry, trade, public sectors, and public transportation.
