Upcoming Trade Shows Munich, Germany for Renewable Energies
Intersolar Europe 2025, Munich, Germany
7 - 9 May 2025
For the past decade, Munich has heavily invested into the renewable energies industry in pursuit of its target to meet 100% of its electricity demand from renewable energy sources by 2025. We’re less a year than the final deadline and the outlook is mostly positive. As of today, Munich produces 2.9 billion kWh per year from renewable sources, surpassing the electricity demand of all private households. The current renewable energy share of 39% is expected to rise to 100%, equating to 7.5 billion kWh per year by 2025. Achieving this target will require an estimated investment of approximately €9 billion.
The renewable energy portfolio for Munich includes geothermal, hydropower, biomass, and wind energy. While projects within Munich and its surrounding regions are prioritized, the renewable electricity will be sourced from power plants across Germany and Europe. In addition to meeting its electricity needs, Munich also plans to supply 100% of its long-distance heating from renewable sources, utilizing geothermal energy, biomass, and wind power. But this high performance has been forty years in the making when the city council urged the administration to promote renewable energy use back in 1982. This was followed by a 2007 decision to increase the share of renewable energy by 5% by 2020. A key factor in Munich’s rapid progress has been the public ownership of the city's utilities. This has allowed the city council to implement and pursue its renewable energy plans without the constraints often faced by privately-owned utilities. Public involvement and support have also been crucial, with citizens, city planners, and craftsmen playing their parts in shaping the city’s renewable energy policies.
Munich’s renewable energy initiatives are complemented by the efforts of Munich Re, a global insurance group providing crucial support to green technologies. Munich Re's Green Tech Solutions offers financial protection and ensures the long-term performance of renewable energy technologies.
