Upcoming Trade Shows in Netherlands for Logistics & Transportation

The Netherlands’ logistics and transportation industry has hit new impressive highs amidst large government investments and modernisation. In 2022, the transportation and storage sectors saw an impressive growth of 22% year-on-year. That’s up from 13% in 2021, driven by rising freight volumes and strong export activities. The Dutch government has announced an ambitious USD 8 billion investment plan to further enhance its transportation infrastructure, focusing on public transit, road networks, and cycling lanes. A significant portion of this, EUR 4 billion (USD 4.26 billion), will be allocated to enhancing public transportation, including extending Amsterdam’s North-South Metro Line to Schiphol Airport. This move is expected to improve connectivity between key economic hubs and boost the overall efficiency of the Dutch transport system. Road infrastructure will also receive EUR 2.7 billion (USD 2.88 billion) for upgrades and expansions. This includes 40 highway construction projects aimed at reducing congestion and improving freight movement. Additionally, EUR 780 million (USD 832.64 million) has been set aside to expand and improve the country's extensive network of bike lanes, which is expected to lower the country’s carbon footprint by providing eco-friendly commuting options. In the third quarter of 2022, the GDP contribution from the logistics and transportation industry rose to EUR 8.74 billion (USD 9.32 billion), a big jump from EUR 884 million (USD 943.66 million) in the previous quarter. Water transport saw sizable growth in 2021 and 2022 as seagoing and inland shipping recorded over 30% growth year-on-year. This was largely attributed to rising freight rates and increased demand for maritime transport. The country's extensive seaport network, led by the Port of Rotterdam, has been pivotal in handling large volumes of cargo, particularly in the wake of global supply chain disruptions.
