Every year, E-world Energy & Water, Europe’s leading energy trade fair, brings attention to the competitive landscape of energy transition, green energy and energy-efficient solutions. Essen is already one of the major hubs for the energy industry in Germany and becomes alive with many high-ranking professionals and experts taken the stage to inject new momentum into the sector through the fair’s extensive supporting program. The 2024 edition, rich with thematic forums, career initiatives, and networking opportunities, showcased the dynamic trends and challenges in energy efficiency and the broader energy transition. Energy transition remains the main topic of the day. The opening press conference outlined the industry's current priorities. Kerstin Andreae, Chairwoman of the Management Board and member of the Presidium of the German Association of Energy and Water Industries (BDEW), emphasized the urgency of expanding renewable energies and developing the necessary storage capacities. She also highlighted hydrogen's crucial role as a bridging technology. Michael Lewis, CEO and Chief Sustainability Officer of Uniper SE, stressed the significance of blue hydrogen in the energy transition. Kerstin Maria Rippel, Managing Director of the Economic Association of Steel, pointed out the financial strain of high energy prices on energy-intensive industries. The E-world program attracted considerable interest, featuring over 50 events where experts discussed the latest developments and promising projects in the energy transition. The Energy Leadership Meeting brought together industry decision-makers to explore future perspectives. The fiber optic forum, fully booked on the first day, focused on successful expansion strategies under changing conditions. The second day, designated as the Day of Consulates, saw participation from 65 ambassadors, consuls general, and representatives from economic development agencies and chambers of commerce across 25 nations. This international focus facilitated crucial networking opportunities, helping forge connections between global entities and local companies.
