Essen’s security industry receives significant national and international attention for staging the biennial trade fair Security Essen that builds economic bridges between defense markets across the entire world. The 2022 edition was notable for its highly specialized offerings. The Perimeter Protection section highlighted the integral role of security in safeguarding businesses and facilities. Drones, increasingly employed for premises protection, took center stage in the Drone Zone. There was also a special zone dedicated to entrance systems, mechatronics, mechanics, and security solutions underscored the perpetual demand for access solutions, whether mechanical or electronic. Security Essen remains a vital compass for navigating the ever-evolving landscape of security technology, ensuring industry professionals stay ahead in this dynamic and crucial field.
Essen is also home to one of the most important defense players in Germany – Rheinmetall AG. In a strategic move to meet the escalating demand for local defense technology infrastructure, Rheinmetall and Ferrostaal GmbH have collaborated to establish Rheinmetall International Engineering GmbH. This joint venture marks a significant step towards internationalizing defense technology solutions. Rheinmetall International Engineering, a product of Rheinmetall Defense's expertise and Ferrostaal's core competencies in project management, project development, engineering, procurement, construction (EPC) contracting, and production planning/management, will operate under the banner of ""Defence Solutions."" The synergies between Rheinmetall Defense and Ferrostaal are poised to enhance their capabilities in providing turnkey industrial facilities, positioning the joint venture as a pivotal player in the global defense technology landscape.
This collaboration, with each partner holding a 50% stake, emphasizes asset integration from both Rheinmetall and Ferrostaal. The newly formed company is set to consolidate under the equity method, signifying a melding of strengths and shared assets. While the underlying value of the transaction remains undisclosed, both entities are keen on leveraging this collaboration to boost internationalization efforts.
