Upcoming Trade Shows Stuttgart, Germany for Architecture

Stuttgart, more than any other city in Germany, has had deep roots in the architecture industry due to its role as a bustling centre for forward-thinking architects to spearhead exciting new projects. The city is synonymous with architecture as over 30% of all architects currently working in Baden-Württemberg’s region are based out of Stuttgart. When you have such a powerful community located in one place, it’s not a surprise to see how far ahead architecture has gone in both design, scope and innovation. There’s always something happening in Stuttgart. In 2023, the most important event was the JUNG Architecture Talks, which provided a glimpse into Stuttgart's architectural future. These talks, held for the eleventh time, delved into selected projects from the International Building Exhibition 2027, which seeks to define future models of building and urban living in the Stuttgart region. Architects like Sigrid Müller-Welt, Dominique Dinies, Eduard Schmutz, Matthias Mayer, Florian Kaiser and Guobin Chen presented their innovative contributions to IBA'27, shedding light on the exciting developments reshaping Stuttgart's architectural landscape. Why is 2027 significant? It’s the year that the chief accomplishment of modernist architecture, the Weissenhofsiedlung, will be celebrating a century since its construction. Stuttgart has been growing, changing and adapting since its foundation in the Middle Ages. You see the history in its streets, and its architects are the protectors of these landmarks. Modernist and post-modernist structures dot the landscape, and demand consistent care. As with other German cities, the architecture industry is tasked with renovation and restoration – especially those parts of the city that were destroyed during World War II. It’s been a consistent process that involves a wide spectrum of projects. In some cases, it’s outright restoration. In others, it’s adaptive reuse. With new construction, it’s the striving to match the surrounding environment and the city’s unique architectural language.
