Upcoming Trade Shows in Spain for Packing & Packaging

The Spanish packing and packaging industry is experiencing unprecedented growth. We’re talking about record levels in turnover—€40.4 billion! The industry has grown by 22% and the number of companies has increased by 8.3% to 3,447. The sector's robust expansion is a symptom of a healthy economy and its value to numerous other industries ranging from food and beverages to logistics and pharmaceuticals. The report, Packaging in Spain, the Power of an Industry Committed to Sustainability, highlights the industry's adaptability in the face of geopolitical uncertainty, rising energy costs, inflation, and stringent new regulatory requirements. Despite these challenges, the Spanish packaging industry has expanded, with 90% of its businesses being small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The sector also provides 118,500 jobs, making up 5.12% of total industrial employment in Spain. By subsectors, the largest number of firms operate in plastic packaging and material manufacturing (900), followed by paper and cardboard (710), packaging machinery (615), wooden packaging (702), and labelling, coding, and marking equipment (301). The metal (165), glass (40), and cork packaging (12) industries, though smaller, contribute significantly to the sector's overall growth. Catalonia continues to lead in packaging activity, accounting for nearly 30% of all companies in the sector. Other key regions include Valencia (18%), Madrid (10.31%), and Andalusia, which has shown significant growth to reach 9.72%. Murcia follows with 6.3%, demonstrating a broad national distribution of packaging industry players. Market demand for sustainable packaging solutions is a key driver of growth. The paper and cardboard segment benefit from increasing environmental consciousness and regulatory changes and saw a 24.4% increase in turnover to €13.4 billion, turning them into industry leaders. Plastic packaging remains a major contributor with a stable €9.6 billion turnover. Packaging machinery saw a 12.3% increase to €4.6 billion, fueled by automation and digital transformation efforts.
