Upcoming Trade Shows in Spain for Building & Construction
TECMA 2026, Madrid, Spain
9 - 11 Jun 2026
The building and construction industry in Spain is experiencing a notable resurgence, which is a ray of light after a dramatic decline in activity because of the pandemic and rise in material costs. One of the driving forces behind this revival is the surge in housing permits, which come as a big catalyst for growth in the construction sector. Recent data from the Ministry of Public Works reveals a substantial uptick in new building licenses with 10,899 permits authorized by the Spanish Board of Architects in March 2022. This figure represents a significant increase compared to March 2021 and February 2022, indicating a 26.7% annual jump.
The momentum extends beyond residential construction to non-residential projects such as offices and industrial structures. Construction costs, inclusive of labor and material consumption, have surged at an annual rate exceeding 14%, but the sector looks to be overcoming this challenge. Non-residential construction has particularly thrived as it witnessed a remarkable 21% growth and more than surpassed the 10.6% expansion in the residential sector. Building renovations, covering both residential and non-residential structures, have seen a healthy uptick of 12.8%.
Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, key indicators in the residential sector, including building permits, transaction volumes and prices, remain on an upward trajectory, which promises easier years ahead for the country’s building and construction sector. The dip in housing approvals in 2020, attributed to the pandemic's impact, has been overcome, leading to a positive expansion in building completion certificates.
Looking forward, the construction industry's growth is further bolstered by planned investments in transportation and infrastructure. The government's commitment to infrastructure development aligns with sustainable development goals for 2030. A comprehensive outlook anticipates growth across all construction sectors. In summary, Spain's construction sector is navigating a phase of rejuvenation that’s in line with sustainable development objectives and sustainability goals.
