Over a three-week period in 2023, Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO), a leading innovation hub and member of the Dubai Integrated Economic Zones Authority (DIEZ), hosted pioneering Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) drone delivery trials conducted by Jeebly LLC and Skye Air Mobility. Partnering with the Dubai Future Foundation, Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Dubai Silicon Oasis, the trials unfolded in the Dubai Experimental Zone within DSO. This zone serves as a real-world testing ground for robotics and autonomous systems. Eng. Muammar Al Katheeri, Chief Officer of Engineering and Sustainability at DIEZ, shared his excitement at this move and its potential to foster advanced technologies. Ahmad Hasan Belqaizi, Executive Director of the Aviation Safety and Environment Sector at the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, noted that the trials are a first, important step towards shaping the regulatory and operational framework for commercial drone transport operations. The success of these initial trials paves the way for enhancing the efficiency and safety of drone-based delivery services.
