Upcoming Trade Shows Dubai, UAE for Energy

The energy industry in Dubai has seen a volley of new green initiatives, whose aim is to lessen the reliance of the city on fossil fuels. The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) takes the lead on most of these efforts. In 2023, DEWA announced plans to build the nation’s first hydroelectric power plant in Hatta, which is a bold step for the region and serves as a strategic move to diversify Dubai's energy mix and reduce its carbon footprint. The new hydroelectric plant will harness the power of water stored in the Hatta Dam, which holds 1,716 million gallons. An upper reservoir, capable of storing 880 million gallons, will be constructed 300 meters above the dam. During peak hours, the 250 MW power station will generate electricity by channeling water through turbines. In off-peak hours, solar energy will pump water back to the upper reservoir, effectively creating a large-scale energy storage system. This innovative approach positions the plant as a key component of Dubai’s energy infrastructure. The plant will be integrated into the DEWA grid, supplying clean, renewable energy directly to the city's power network. The project, expected to be completed within five years, is an important phase in the realization of Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050. In addition to the hydroelectric plant, DEWA has several other green energy initiatives underway. These include the installation of electric vehicle charging stations and solar panels on rooftops throughout Hatta. The hydroelectric plant and associated projects are not only environmentally beneficial but also economically significant. According to Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, CEO of DEWA, the Hatta projects will create 200 permanent jobs in technical, administrative, and operational roles. An additional 300 jobs are anticipated in the Visitor Centre and related outdoor and tourist facilities. During the implementation phase, over 2,000 jobs will be generated, providing a substantial boost to the local economy.
