Dubai’s defense industry has added another shining star that’s poised to revolutionize defense technology. We’re talking about Micropolis Holding, a leading robotics manufacturer based in the city that is set to make its mark on the New York Stock Exchange. The company, recognized for its development of autonomous mobile robots and accompanying software, has officially filed for an initial public offering with the US Securities and Exchange Commission in 2023. Micropolis aims to generate up to $37 million through the issuance of 8.2 million shares with a price range of $4 to $5 per share. Positioned at the midpoint of this range, the company anticipates commanding a market value of $172 million. A clear signal of investor confidence in Dubai's technological advancement. The company has notably collaborated with the Dubai Police to introduce Microspot, an AI-powered security software, in 2024 and has contributed to the development of self-driving security patrol vehicles. Micropolis is also actively engaged with the Dubai Roads and Transportation Authority, particularly through the Dubai Police Innovation Lab, to establish a secure testing zone for autonomous vehicles in the Jumeirah 1 area. Dubai additionally bolsters its defense sector with the Dubai Airshow – a seminal event for the aerospace and defense sectors. The numbers prove its worth: 1,400 exhibitors from 95 countries, 350 international speakers, 80 startups and 20 country pavilions. In short, the airshow exists as a microcosm of the best of aerospace and defense. Every edition generates impressive headlines and most recently it was Raytheon making waves. Among the technologies presented by Raytheon, the Coyote Block 2 model stood out – a collaborative effort in co-producing advanced counter-unmanned aerial system (C-UAS) solutions within the UAE. Another highlight was the High Energy Laser, a state-of-the-art C-UAS system that reveals potential new avenues for the defense sector as a whole.
