Paris continues to assert itself as a leading global hub for Life Sciences and HealthTech, driven by a series of dynamic initiatives and a thriving ecosystem that supports both established companies and emerging startups. The Paris Saclay Research and Innovation Cluster plays an integral role here. Recently ranked among the top eight innovation clusters worldwide, Paris Saclay boasts a robust biopharma ecosystem with notable players such as Servier, Merck, and Ipsen. The cluster is set to further accelerate biotech startup development with the upcoming addition of new infrastructures like Kadans and Biolabs, enhancing its appeal as a prime location for biotech innovation, which will only elevate the reputation of Paris’ medical and pharma industry.
Medicen, a key player in this landscape, unifies private and public organizations to foster future therapeutic solutions. With over 500 members, including 430 startups, Medicen acts as a central hub for collaboration and innovation within the healthcare sector. This extensive network facilitates the development and commercialization of cutting-edge medical technologies. Another significant contributor to the Paris health and biotech scene is Biocitech, a 21,000-square-meter Life Sciences campus located in Romainville. Equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, Biocitech hosts companies such as Galapagos, Mutabilis, and Nextdot.
The Paris Region is also home to a vibrant startup ecosystem, with approximately 12,000 startups contributing to its dynamic business environment. Remarkably, startups in the Paris Region attract around 70% of the total funding raised in France. In the past three years alone, healthcare companies in the region have secured over €4 billion in funding. This influx of capital underscores Paris’s role as a crucial player in the global health innovation landscape. Foreign startups are particularly well-supported in Paris. These include Ipeps, linked to university hospitals, Biolabs Hôtel Dieu and Paris Biotech Santé, which provide lab space, and Future4Care, dedicated to digital health.
