The automotive industry makes up one of the biggest economic pillars in the Paris Region, which is the central hub for France’s well-established, thriving automotive production companies such as the massive conglomerate Stellantis and Renault Group. The automotive industry supports not just car manufacturers, but has managed to create numerous jobs for suppliers and technical design offices, which provide essential components like glass, tires, and plastics. Currently, there are 900 facilities in this supplier network that rely on the automotive sector to continue their existence, out of which roughly 70% are small, specialised businesses that number fewer than ten employees.
Furthermore, technical design offices and IT service companies have become integral players in vehicle design and industrialization. Renowned names like Alten, Assystem, Akka Ingénierie, and Bertrandt contribute to pushing the boundaries of automotive innovation. Many of these players are small businesses, with half employing less than ten individuals. As Paris Region's automotive industry propels itself into the future, it is clear that the road ahead is marked by innovation, sustainability, and the collaborative spirit that defines this vibrant region.
Now let’s look at the type of companies that operate in the region. You have the headquarters of the major French parts suppliers, Faurecia and Valeo. It’s important to note that not all corporate headquarters, R&D centres and production sites belong to French brands. The Paris Region is also home to globally recognized players such as Continental and Bosch (Germany); Visteon, Lear, Delphi and Adient Seating (USA); Akebono, Denso and Yazaki (Japan); Telma (China); and SMR (India). In addition to the region being a chief production centre with a sixth of all French vehicles leaving local assembly facilities, R&D remains the core sector represented with half of all jobs being related to research (researchers and others).
