Upcoming Trade Shows Paris, France for Gardening

In a bid to transform the City of Light into a greener, more sustainable urban space, Paris recently introduced a groundbreaking initiative that invites residents to become keepers of their own urban gardens. It’s officially a new era in the gardening industry in Paris. Officially known as the ‘permis de végétaliser’ or license to vegetate, this innovative program was quietly passed as part of Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo's ambitious plan to enhance the city's green infrastructure. The measure has garnered widespread attention both in France and internationally. Under the initiative, any Parisian resident can apply for a renewable three-year permit to establish their own urban garden project, contributing to the city’s goal of adding 100 hectares of vegetation across its walls and rooftops by 2020, with a significant portion dedicated to urban agriculture. From fruit trees to living walls to rooftop gardens, participants are encouraged to unleash their creativity while adhering to sustainable gardening practices. However, the program comes with guidelines aimed at preserving the city’s aesthetics and promoting biodiversity. Participants are required to maintain their installations sustainably, refrain from using pesticides and exclusively plant local species. Moreover, Paris emphasizes the importance of cultivating local honey plants to support dwindling bee populations. Penelope Komitès, overseeing green spaces and biodiversity in Paris, highlighted the initiative’s dual benefits: beautifying the cityscape while enhancing residents’ quality of life. This holistic approach aligns with Hidalgo’s broader vision of greening Paris, which includes the creation of public gardens, planting thousands of new trees, and integrating educational farms and orchards into schools. Beyond urban gardening, Paris has implemented various measures to combat pollution and promote sustainability, including car-free days and legislation requiring new commercial buildings to incorporate green roofs or solar panels. Additionally, France's recent ban on plastic plates and cutlery underscores the country's leadership in environmental conservation.
