Upcoming Trade Shows in Italy for Gardening
EIMA International 2024, Bologna, Italy
6 - 10 Nov 2024
In Italy home gardening has experienced a renaissance. The gardening industry in the country has seen an uptick in sales as more and more Italians are embracing gardening as a holistic pursuit that encompasses wellbeing, sustainability and urban ecology. The pandemic certainly opened people’s eyes to the benefits of gardening. According to industry experts, the gardening sector is witnessing a transformation with a shift towards products and practices that promote health, relaxation, and ecological consciousness. From designer pots to ergonomic tools and cutting-edge batteries, the market is catering to the needs of the younger generations.
Recent research indicates a significant uptick in sell-in with projections for 2022 ranging between EUR 3.35 and EUR 3.40 billion. This marks a substantial increase from previous years. Since its inception in 2015, Myplant & Garden, Italy's premier gardening trade fair, has played a pivotal role in driving this expansion. At the latest edition of Myplant & Garden, emerging consumer trends took center stage. The big sellers turned out to be terrariums, xerophilous plants, mushrooms and algae cultivation, which showcased the diversity of botanical interests in Italy. The rise of marimo, an algae species symbolizing eternal love, and the popularity of succulents, officinal herbs and variegated plants underscore a growing interest in natural remedies and homemade beauty products.
Additionally, a newfound appreciation for small fruit trees, including citrus varieties like kumquat and calamondin orange, reflects a desire for both ornamental and functional greenery. Looking ahead, the National Garden Bureau anticipated 2023 to be the year of orchids, broccoli, celosia, amaryllis, rudbeckia, and spirea, signaling a continued diversification of botanical preferences. Notably, there's a discernible shift towards sustainable gardening practices with an emphasis on eco-friendly materials and natural soils. Decorative pots crafted from recycled materials and vegetable fibers are increasingly popular.
