The outlook for the wider home décor and lifestyle industry in Italy is positive. The Italian home furniture market is expected to remain in a steady growth phase over the next five years. Estimated to reach $17.09 billion in 2024, the market is projected to expand to $20.04 billion by 2029. That’s a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 3.23% for the entire period. Several factors are driving the expansion of Italy’s home furniture sector. Increased per capita GDP, urbanization, and the number of households contribute significantly to market growth. Italy’s reputation for producing high-quality home furnishings has established it as one of the major makers and exporters in the European Union. Living and dining room furniture remains particularly popular, catering to both domestic and international markets.
The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the global supply chain, which significantly affected the Italian home décor and lifestyle industry. Lockdowns and restrictions led to factory closures and reduced operational capacities, which in turn hampered the supply to European importers. However, as operations gradually resumed, the industry began to recover, although the search for alternative supply sources by importers continued. Exports constitute a major portion of Italy’s furniture production. The ‘Made in Italy’ label hasn’t lost any bit of its power to attract customers, who prize quality and craftsmanship. The success of Italian furniture exports is driven by major investments in design, a business model centered around industrial districts, and a strong export orientation. France and Germany are the top markets for Italian furniture, with significant exports also going to the Asia-Pacific region, the United States, and Canada.
Finally, we have to touch on e-commerce. Italy ranks as the 13th largest e-commerce market in the world, with a revenue growth of 33% in 2021. Homeware and furniture accounted for 9% of the e-commerce segment.
