Upcoming Trade Shows Paris, France for Lighting

Since it’s known as the City of Lights, Paris has a particularly well-developed lighting industry, which is evidenced by its iconic lighting that graces its streets, parks, and landmark. With around 345,000 light sources consuming nearly 150 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity annually, public lighting stands as the second highest energy consumer for the City of Paris. To meet the ambitious goals of the Paris Climate Plan, which aims for a 30% reduction in energy consumption, a comprehensive renovation of these lighting installations has become imperative. The City of Paris has been proactive in its approach since 2011, implementing a Ten-Year Energy Performance Contract to address this challenge. This contract mandates the modernization of public lighting systems while striving to maintain the city’s aesthetic appeal—a crucial factor for both residents and tourists. Key strategies have included replacing outdated and inefficient lighting fixtures, reducing illumination durations based on ambient brightness, and curtailing illuminations to midnight. The early results of these initiatives are promising. By the end of 2013, Paris had upgraded over 8,000 lights and refitted 55 intersections with energy-efficient LEDs, which has resulted in a substantial saving of more than 8 GWh. Notable projects include the renovation of lighting at landmark locations such as the Pont d’Arcole and Place de la Concorde, improvements on the Boulevard Périphérique, and the installation of LED lights in the Alma tunnel. Additionally, reflective strips have replaced outdated building numbering systems, and new tests have been conducted on lighting photometric levels and colors across various neighborhoods. Electricity consumption for public lighting in Paris has shown a notable decline. In 2012, the energy consumption for these 345,000 light sources was 139 GWh. This is a 1.5% reduction from 2011. The total energy expenditure of the lighting industry in Paris for that year was €15.6 million.
