Parma has entered a new chapter in the development of its local food and drinks industry with the grand inauguration of GEA’s cutting-edge homogeniser production facility, a move set to redefine capabilities in the food and beverage industry. A homogeniser, a pivotal piece of equipment, plays a crucial role in the homogenisation process, ensuring the uniform breakdown of particles or droplets in mixtures. In the realm of food and beverage, this technology serves diverse purposes such as enhancing texture, flavor and taste, prolonging product shelf life, creating emulsions and stabilizers, improving nutrient absorption, reducing fat droplet size, and enhancing overall color and appearance.
This strategic investment by GEA responds to the surging demand in the food, pharmaceutical, and biotech sectors, which promises a substantial increase in production capacity. The facility also had advanced testing capabilities and expanded assembly areas designed for swift delivery times. Aligned with GEA’s pursuit of environmental sustainability, the Parma site incorporates eco-conscious features like photovoltaic panels, water reuse systems and innovative AC technology. According to Domenico Gambarelli, Senior Vice President of GEA's Homogeniser Business Unit, the investment will be transformative for the city as it combines enhanced efficiency with a strong strategy to reduce waste and lower the facility’s carbon footprint. The GEA’s site in Parma is set to become one of the world’s key research centers in homogenization.
The crown jewel of this expansion is the brand-new 4,000 square-meter production unit, poised to boost production capacity by up to 50% over the next decade. The adjacent testing zone, equipped with test bays, allows for factory acceptance tests (FAT) in the presence of customers, expediting product validation. GEA has doubled the in-line assembly area for standard machines, anticipating substantial reductions in delivery times. The comprehensive project encompasses the entire GEA Parma site, optimizing workflows and maximizing space utilization.
