Upcoming Trade Shows in UK for Education & Training
Bett 2025, London, UK
22 - 24 Jan 2025
The UK education and training industry has been quick to pivot to online education in order to keep up with an increasing global engagement and the rapid adoption of digital learning platforms. The pandemic has accelerated the acceptance and integration of digital learning formats in the UK. Previously, online or distance learning programs faced limited success in penetrating the UK market. However, the widespread adoption of teleworking and online education during 2020 and 2021 has shifted perceptions. The big winners are US providers of online and distance learning programs, who have dominated the market for the past decade and have more opportunity to further establish themselves in the UK.
The UK education and training industry has long had ties to the American higher education market. According to the Institute of International Education’s 2022 Open Doors Report, the United Kingdom ranked 14th among countries sending their students to the United States, with 10,292 international students from the UK studying at U.S. higher education institutions during the 2021-2022 academic year. This represents a notable 28.2% increase from the previous year, reflecting a broader trend of rising international mobility post-pandemic.
International students are a substantial economic force, contributing $33.8 billion to the U.S. economy in the 2021-2022 academic year, an increase of $5.5 billion from the previous year. UK students alone contributed over $500 million, marking a 25% increase. These figures highlight the growing economic interdependence and the importance of fostering educational exchanges between the UK and the U.S. The UK’s education system is globally renowned, making it a fertile ground for attracting students to the U.S., especially at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The U.S.-UK Fulbright Commission identifies several key motivators for British students, including the quality and flexibility of American academic programs, availability of scholarships, athletic opportunities, and the rich cultural experience of U.S. campus life.
