Upcoming Trade Shows Hamburg, Germany for Heating

Hamburg’s heating industry is embracing sustainable heating solutions as it makes strides towards a cleaner, greener future. Two groundbreaking projects are shaping the city's heating landscape, making it a beacon of innovation and environmental responsibility. First, there’s the HafenCity project that reclaims the former harbor city and modernizes it. It’s the first city neighborhood exclusively fueled by CO2-free industrial heat. Aurubis, a key player in copper production, harnesses heat from a chemical subprocess and, in collaboration with enercity, channels it through a 3.7 km pipeline to HafenCity East and Rothenburgsort. This colossal project, unparalleled in Germany for its size and complexity, is a climate-friendly heating approach. By preventing 20,000 tons of CO2 annually (the equivalent of the emissions of 10,000 mid-range cars), it demonstrates the raw potential of industrial heat in transforming urban sustainability. The numbers tell a compelling story of the city officials’ ambitions and the scope and scale of the project. The 3.7 km pipeline, akin to Hamburg's Köhlbrand Bridge, facilitates the heat transfer. A heat volume of 160 million kWh can sustain approximately 8000 households for a year. All this is achieved through an investment from Aurubis and enercity that’s estimated to be over €40 million. In another groundbreaking initiative, Johnson Controls, Hamburg Water, and Hamburg Energie are collaborating on a wastewater heat project set to revolutionize heating in the northern German city. With a massive 60 MW heating capacity, this project, slated to begin in 2025, leverages four 15 MW heat pumps at the central wastewater treatment plant. The innovative approach involves extracting heat from treated wastewater, a process that not only supplies heating to over 39,000 residential units but also feeds into Hamburg Energie's district heating system. This forward-thinking project aligns with Hamburg’s goals for sustainable urban development and showcases how wastewater can be a valuable resource.
