The heating industry is one of the biggest energy consumers worldwide and current trends for the upcoming years explore a greener and more sustainable future. Many companies are feeling an increasing demand for energy-efficient, sustainable products. The drive for energy efficiency and carbon footprint reduction has propelled the integration of renewable energy sources into heating systems. This strategic move aligns with sustainable building practices and also contributes to the global goal of achieving energy independence. HVAC systems are increasingly harnessing renewable energy, such as solar power and geothermal energy, to power their operations. Advanced control systems play a pivotal role as they optimize the utilization of renewable sources to match the heating and cooling needs of buildings. Even if you’re using renewable energy, energy expenditures will be minimal. Overall this technology does quite a lot to diminish reliance on fossil fuels. The integration of renewables steers the heating industry towards a more sustainable and eco-friendly trajectory. Australian startup Orata Tech is at the forefront of sustainable heating and cooling solutions. Their innovative approach utilizes the thermal mass of phase change materials to create a thermal battery within homes. The incorporation of a heat pump, fueled by solar power, enables time-shifting of heating and cooling demands. By avoiding reliance on fossil fuels, Orata Tech's panels contribute to maintaining a stable and comfortable temperature in a green way. Meanwhile in Finland, startup Heliostorage is pioneering seasonal thermal energy storage that’s going to rewrite how buildings are heated. Their cutting-edge technology combines solar thermal collectors, a smart thermal controller, and a proprietary borehole thermal energy storage (BTES) system. During the warmer months, excess energy is collected and stored in BTES for later use in colder seasons. The system is versatile as it supports various heat sources ranging from industrial waste heat all the way to excess district heating.
