Digital technologies are currently causing massive ways in the family and education industry as we speak. Two significant trends reshaping this landscape are the increasing focus on digital upskilling and the rising interest in alternative education models.
As the pace of technological change accelerates, employers are increasingly seeking employees equipped with up-to-date digital skills. This demand has led to a boom in courses offering practical, hands-on learning experiences, such as coding boot camps and specialized training programs. Companies like Udacity are at the forefront of this trend as they partner with industry leaders to provide courses in high-demand fields like data science, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, cybersecurity, and autonomous systems. The global coding bootcamp market is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 19.31% from 2022 to 2026. Similarly, the market for online data science training programs is projected to expand at a 25.1% CAGR over the same period. These programs are designed to equip learners with high-tech skills in a matter of months, making them particularly attractive in a fast-evolving job market.
The COVID-19 pandemic has also catalyzed a shift toward alternative education models in the United States, such as charter schools, virtual schools, and homeschooling. The number of U.S. households homeschooling doubled at the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year compared to the previous year. Although homeschooling numbers slightly declined by 17% in the 2021-2022 school year, they remain significantly above pre-pandemic levels. Virtual schools, which saw substantial growth during the pandemic, are expected to continue playing a crucial role in the education system even after COVID-19’s immediate impact wanes. Meanwhile, charter schools have also seen a marked increase. In the 2019-2020 school year, there were 7,547 charter schools serving 3.4 million students, a rise from the 1,993 charter schools serving 448,000 students in 2000.
