The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has set its sights high in the aerospace industry. Not content with being a regional leader, the nation is diligently working towards becoming a global hub for civil, commercial, and space activities. Leading the charge is the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC), which is the driving force behind the UAE space program. This program is pursuing a portfolio of space satellite projects and the ambitious Emirates Mars Mission. The UAE’s investments in space technologies have already exceeded a staggering $5.4 billion. These investments have borne fruit in the form of advanced satellites like Al Yah 3 and Al Thuraya, which are crucial for maps and earth monitoring. The UAE Space Agency is also racing to construct an unmanned probe spacecraft set to orbit Mars. Beyond satellites, the UAE has planned to build the very first city on Mars within a century. Their deadline – 2117.
In addition to space, the UAE is making significant strides in advanced aerospace structure and composite part manufacturing. The aim? To become a pivotal supplier to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) worldwide. To achieve this goal, the UAE is home to two aerospace clusters: the Dubai World Central Aviation District and Nibras Al Ain Aerospace Park. Notably, aerospace investments in Abu Dhabi are primarily centered around the sprawling 10-square-mile Nibras Al Ain Aerospace Park. This impressive development, a collaboration between Mubadala Development Company and Abu Dhabi Airports Company, is a multi-dimensional hub housing industrial projects, businesses, office complexes and mixed-used residential zones. Importantly, two square miles are specifically designated for the aerospace industry.
Driving this remarkable journey is a trio of investment companies: Tawazun Holding, Mubadala Development Company and Emirates Advanced Investment Group. These entities, through their subsidiaries like Ammroc and Strata Manufacturing, have formed strategic alliances with leading U.S. aerospace and defense contractors.
