Upcoming Trade Shows Amsterdam, Netherlands for Food & Drink
HORECAVA 2025, Amsterdam, Netherlands
13 - 16 Jan 2025
Amsterdam’s food and drinks industry is abuzz with innovation and sustainability initiatives. The biggest headlines to have come out in 2023 concerns the massive investment of €3 million in the climate software firm, Ecochain. Led by Phase2.earth and supported by Volta Ventures, along with a loan from ABN AMRO, this funding will go towards introducing a new level of sustainability for companies working in food production. Founded in 2011, Ecochain specializes in life cycle assessment (LCA) software, offering valuable insights into the environmental impact of products. This technology is particularly crucial for diverse industries such as packaging, construction, fashion, food and beverages, and consumer electronics.
Ecochain’s LCA software addresses a historical challenge. Life cycle assessments were once laborious and costly. Ecochain’s product footprint tools and auxiliary services make it easier for businesses to comprehend the environmental implications of their products. The company provides two software options: Ecochain Helix, a bulk solution for assessing production facility impacts, and Ecochain Mobius, a product-focused footprint tool that measures and supports eco-design.
Amsterdam further established itself as a hub for sustainable practices by hosting the European edition of the Sustainable Foods Summit, which took place in the middle of June. This executive summit delved into nature-positive production, regenerative agriculture, marketing success stories, upcycled foods and ingredient sourcing trends. For over a decade, the Sustainable Foods Summit has been a platform for discussing major sustainability developments in the food industry. In 2023, it explored evolving sustainability schemes, prospects for a single sustainability standard, the future of plant-based foods, sustainable ingredients and the transition toward circularity in the food and beverage sector. The participation of senior executives from the European food industry in this summit brought further attention to Amsterdam’s local food and drinks sector, which was very well represented at the summit.
